Renovue

What does a $50,000 basement remodel include?

$50,000 turns a basement into a fully finished lower level: a media or lounge area, built-in storage or a wet bar, layered lighting and quality finishes. Built-ins and features take a much larger share of the money than they do at $25,000. Renovue's planning range for this budget is $40,000–$65,000.

One tier down, one tier up

What moves the price

Renovue's ranges use national planning assumptions for a typical single-family home. Labor rates, material prices and permit requirements vary by region, and older homes often hide problems that only show up once walls and floors are opened. Compare several local bids that each list the same scope.

Check these before you price a basement

Renovue's basement estimate doesn't account for square footage, and basements vary more than any other room. Use this range for planning, and expect bids to depend heavily on size and the condition of the space.

A wet bar needs a water supply and a drain. If there's no plumbing nearby, that work can add noticeably to the cost, so ask for it as a separate line.

A bedroom usually needs an egress window, and a bathroom may need a pump if it sits below the sewer line. Neither is included in this range.

Questions

What does a $50,000 basement remodel include?
A fully finished lower level: walls, ceiling and flooring, a media or lounge area, built-in storage or a wet bar, layered lighting and quality finishes. It assumes the basement is dry and the stairs, posts and ceiling height stay as they are.
Is a wet bar included in a $50,000 basement?
It fits this tier, but its cost depends on how far the nearest plumbing is. If supply and drain lines have to be run a long way, or the drain needs a pump, ask for that as a separate line item.
Can a $50,000 basement include a bathroom?
Renovue's basement range doesn't include one. A basement bathroom can need below-grade plumbing and a pump, which varies too much to estimate here, so price it separately.
Does finishing a basement add value?
It adds usable space, but how buyers in your area value finished basements varies. Ask a local real estate agent; Renovue doesn't estimate resale value.
